The process by which we create our handcrafted rustic log furniture is environment-friendly: In harmony with our responsibility to respect and maintain the environment, we harvest the standing dead "Lodge pole" pine from the forest in an age-old fashion, without the use of heavy equipment. Some "Blow downs" from the wind can also be salvaged. As good stewards, the "Wildlife" trees are left untouched. These are the larger dead trees that provide food and shelter for the smaller wildlife, including birds. Dried by the forces of nature, there is no moisture in the logs. The rustic quality of the cracks, or checking, adds character to the simple beauty of the log. Draw knives are used to hand peel the bark from the logs. This "Skip-peel" procedure gives our log furniture color contrast and the appearance of natural texture. One assembly technique used in making our furniture is mortise and tenon joinery, known for its strength in heirloom quality craftsmanship.
